I have a Surface Book Gen 1 and it got to the point where I needed a docking station. I tried Surface Dock 2 and had nothing but problems. I stumbled across pluggable docking stations and couldn't be happier. Technical support recommended this dock as compatible with my Surface Book. I also ordered two HDMI cables to connect to my two external monitors. The quick guide consisted of 4 simple steps. One step was to visit their website to download Display Link drivers. After that everything was hooked up and BOOM, my two external monitors came alive and were very reliable. As stated in the description of this docking station, you must use your laptop's AC adapter to keep the laptop charged. This is a limitation of my Surface Book without a USB-C charging port. If you have a USB-C charging port, Plugable has other models that will charge your laptop without a laptop power adapter.
