Review on Black Magnavox MDR537H/F7 HDD/DVD Recorder for Enhanced SEO by Tuan Core

A bit lame but functional - basically a Caffine VCR, no Seroids

Bought because it's next to impossible to get a Channel Master 7000PAL or 7400 (and it's used). All in all it records and programs like a VCR, with some tweaks, but it's utterly lame compared to Channel Master gear. Big pluses are the huge hard drive, DVD burning capability, and basic editing capabilities so commercials can be edited from footage and recorded to DVD. 480 standard protection The tuner in the unit appears to be much worse at receiving signals - the old DTV PAL tuner handles the same drop off better and the CM7000PAL elsewhere in the house has much better sensitivity and signal reception. The 537 tuner requires a full HiDef signal even though it only outputs a 480° picture. A DTVPAL converter box on the same antenna assembly picks up weaker stations much better and reproduces a high-quality picture - the worst thing is the complete lack of a TV guide built into the CM7000PAL and DTVPAL. If you can, get the 'old' CM7000PAL or the latest incarnation of the CM7500 aka DVR+ (avoid the CM7400-Very Bad News) - otherwise get one of those Magnavox units and be happy it's not better for OTA signal and time recording. Switching and editing commercials and breaks between channels is easy - you can then burn the cleaned up result to DVD.

Pros
  • Great for me
