Review on 🎮 Neogeo Mini Player Pack - Japanese Version Enhanced for SEO by Sean Zamora

In the preface to this review, I would like to say that I have never played a real Neo Geo AES. My introduction to SNK was mainly through the many Sega Saturn and Dreamcast ports, all of which I really enjoy. Given the prices of the Neo Geo console itself and the games, I figured this mini console would be a good entry point to experience a good chunk of the Neo Geo library without a big investment. And I have to say that it is exactly like that. What. 40 games by default and a good selection of many genres other than the 2D action movies I'm familiar with from SNK. I briefly played all of the included games and found something I liked the most. There really aren't any complaints, and I would say the library is qualitatively comparable to the Genesis or TurboGrafx mini-libraries. (I won't focus on the ability to add games other than to mention that it's possible, although the information can be a little harder to come by than on similar mini-consoles.) Before purchasing, I read a few complaints that I 'll address: The HDMI output doesn't look as sharp as other mini consoles, but I still find it acceptable and preferable to the tiny included screen. (Fun new and improved graphics, but I can't see myself playing this seriously.) The other big complaint I've noticed was with the controller: since I'm unfamiliar with the standard Neo Geo layout, I like the default layout here. For someone used to Capcom's fighter, I felt at home in most games with light to heavy overhead kicks and underhand kicks. I'm sure it's annoying if you're used to the original layout, but it works great for me. The lack of microswitches on the joystick is a downside (love that in Pocket Color!), but I had no problem performing any of the special moves in either the Fatal Fury or King of Fighters games. Overall, I find these controllers comfortable and my favorite piece of console hardware. In summary, this console could have been perfect with a few tweaks, but the cons far outweigh the pros. It's a nice console, a good library, and it plays great. I would recommend it to anyone who, like me, is interested in diving into Neo Geo without having to win the lottery first.
