Review on Monroe 58630 Adjust Shock Absorber by Jeff Perez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Know what you are buying.

These shocks were advertised for my 2002 Dodge Dakota SLT 4 Door 2 Wheeler. When they arrived, the dampers were fully extended and the spring was fully extended as well. I have no way of knowing if they were shipped from Monroe without compression straps or not. Since they arrived that way, it took me a while to figure out a way to compress the springs during installation. I made a double strap using two cheap ratchet straps, removed the hook on one end and used the end bar on the ratchet. Cheap ratchets have webbing thin enough to wrap between the cylinder and the spring. I tied detachable short knots at each end of the spring and was able to lower it 3 or 4 inches to allow the top hub to fit into the top hanger, then I had to use a two by four short bolt as a lever to lift it up. Insert the cylinder into the lower bracket and insert the screws. Once in place, I was able to release the spring pressure and straighten the metal cone by snapping the straps. Good luck with your installation.
