05/21/17 — The longer I use this thing, the less I like it. Just opened the door to the stairwell, waited two or three seconds - no reaction. He appeared halfway up the stairs. The lags seem to be increasing and I've only been using it for a month. 4/22/17 - This is an infrared sensor, not a motion sensor. In the application for which I wanted to detect movement at the top of a stairwell, it works adequately - as long as you wait for it. I had to install it across the fountain at about knee height as you go through the door above. It doesn't detect door movement, but has to wait to detect body heat, which sometimes means if I'm in a hurry I'll walk a third of the way down the stairs before it turns on the light. I'm giving this three stars because it really works and can probably work well in the right place. I also ordered a 2 pack as many reviews said the lifespan is very short.
