About 50% my fault. God knows why splitting the video to the projector works great, but the audio is so annoying (I think it's Dolby's fault). I just found out today that (i) almost all optical outputs are stereo only, so pretending to get 5.1 from an optical input (even with the input bitstream) won't work. Even worse (which is often the case) when the input signal is PCM, meaning stereo only. All I need is to get the middle channel i.e. 3.1 on BluRay discs. Nothing I could do would produce anything on the center channel. So this box does not work directly with the optical output of my BluRay player. I think it's time to buy a receiver that says "Dolby License". There don't appear to be any optical converters or HDMI -> 5.1 converters with this label. So it's coming back.
