A lot of people having problems make me wonder how much attention has been given to their installation. People brag that speed is a good sign. It took me two and a half hours to install this sensor in my personal 1998 Eagle Talon Tsi AWD. No Tape 3m Heat Shrink Marine Butt Connectors with Ratchet Crimping Tool. Solder RadioShack 60/40 onto the wires with a rosin rod to make them strong before inserting into the butt connectors. 22 AWG Aluminum Stranded Wire (gauge also aluminum). Normal shrink tubing. I used the same ground as the internal fuse box. If you use a copper bolt with the same specs as the factory bolt, it's even better. A ground block would be extreme but not required. I used a "tap" type fuse, also made of aluminum wire, to use on a switching power supply. Connected to the fuse box in the cab. And this meter requires a built-in 5 amp fuse. I actually used a 5x20 glass tube fuse/mount for this. Nothing special. Finally I used a piece of EPDM which is very cheap and very useful. I took a 1/8" piece of EPDM measuring about 1.5" x 4" and wrapped it around the transmitter on this gauge, using only a zip tie to secure it to the bracket that holds the vacuum source Solenoid attached to firewall. Sensor contact for mounting only on rubber / EPDM. This isolates the transmitter/sensor. Taking vibration and shock into account is crucial for all sensors. This sensor and another digital sensor replaced Auto Meter Ultralite's two mechanical sensors. They have run 4 years and 10,000 miles. I have never had a problem and when inspected for removal everything was in excellent condition. You change the wiring of your car. Take it seriously. If you don't have the time or resources to do this, then don't do it. Nonetheless. You don't have to have everything I have to have an amazingly smooth and CLEAN install. Use a bike tire or tube, protect the cargo with heat shrink connectors, and "borrow" a ratchet crimping machine. totally garbage to make the installation clean. And for some of us, that means a lot of appreciation. Take your time installing it and say thank you later! Bonus! Check out "Tesa's Most Advanced Heat Resistant Wiring Harness Tape" if you wire a lot and are very picky like me. Part number 51036 right here at Revain.
