The stone is actually a block of billet aluminum with a diamond coating on one surface. The? Are you saying Al is a light metal? Of course. Ever grabbed a 4" x 10" x 3/8" piece? Not so easy! If you have a flat surface (e.g. a piece of cut and polished marble (1/2" thick)) you really don't need a holder. Just use a non-slip material between the DMT and the surface. Even a wet paper towel will do. The DMT comes with 4 non-slip rubber feet, but I make sure to only use 4. AL deforms easily under pressure at this thickness, and I'd rather play it safe than sharpen the flat iron with a convex shape, 8 or 12 Feet should be fine with a 10" stone. Or just lean on your flat marble! Wow! 4" wide! an alternative to 2.5" wide and slightly longer. 2.5" will suit some a little skinny My planes. I would have preferred a wider width. And my long needle razor blades can be put through the tight sizes neatly. And amazingly you never have to flatten these puppies! OS THREE! My fingers prove it! Good pro products!
