I was nervous about putting my large 12" glass lids on this stand, but when I place the lid with handle between the "stands" it becomes very stable. The little feet prevent it from slipping. "There seems to be enough room for a pen of any shape or size. I've also tested it as a sort of bakeware dryer (if it doesn't seem stable, turn the tray over and see if the center of gravity changes) It can't hold two lids at once just because the lids and handles are bumping into each other, but I can put the lid on one side and plate, spatula, spoon, spatula or grater on the other (face down, reach down on the counter) I can put a ladle down when there is no other item on the stand and I face them from one side to the other. Its footprint is the size of a saucer, but much smaller than when you put the lid on the counter. h green was an option when I bought it. maybe I'll give the white one and keep the green one : )
