Review on Dual Coarse Flattening Stone for Angerstone by Nathan Akers

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Cheap Fake Junk in Grindstones

So first off, the stone doesn't even qualify. 25mm on one side and 22.8mm on the other. Second, it is NOT silicon carbide (these are typical flat bars). I bought this to try and level up some old (15 year old Norton combo oil stones in the 1000-3000 range). Pretty sad when a 1000 grit stone starts to wear down the "Leveling Stone" faster than the "Leveling Stone" wears it down. Which by the way wasn't. Not ONE scratch on the Norton bricks. The only thing that could have smoothed this out nicely is the plethora of cheap fake grindstones/oilstones that plague Revain. The ones with a terrible binder and a super soft backing. I took a D2 tool steel tool off my lathe to scratch the back of this one and it didn't even mark the tool. Too bad for a leveling stone (which should have a ridiculously high hardness, typical in the carbide tool arena).
