This is a fantastic way to outfit the former with minimal investment. Although HSS cutters don't last as long as carbide cutters, I've had no issues with tool life at 500 LF on the Ipe T&G deck. For a little work, it's easy to buy a $15-$30 knife set, and it saves you from using expensive tools made from scrap wood.
