As a sound engineer I'm always on the lookout for a good set of 'neutral' sounding headphones for use in undesirable listening environments or for remote locations where there is no isolation from what you are recording. It's not possible BUT you still want to be able to judge the audio before/during recording. So far I've been using my old AKG 240df headphones (no longer in production). In fact I had several pairs of these until they were no longer used even on ebay. The only downside to AKG headphones was that they were very low impedance and needed a powerful headphone amp before you could get a volume louder than the musicians around you. They were amazingly accurate though - I used them as a third pair of monitor speakers - if the mix sounded good on my studio monitors AND AKGs then I was good to go. When my friend suggested I check out these Sennheiser headphones, I was skeptical. Other similar recommendations were disappointing - too much bass, or not enough bass, or over-the-top treble, etc. Expensive and not worth it. Not so with this headphone. They are almost identical to the sound of my old AKG240df kit. Highly recommended for listening, fidelity and powerful enough that I had to essentially turn off my headphone amp. The price is right too. $20 less than Sony's standard studio headphones. The only downside I see is the length of the cable (6ft), which makes sense considering it's designed to connect to your i device. Personally, I wouldn't travel with them as they're quite large - my in-ear headphones are fine for that. Adding a headphone cable lying around solved that problem.
