My MacBook Pro Mid 2012 ran like a spinning wheel, froze and restarted intermittently and was generally slow. I decided to try a few upgrades before buying a new one - it didn't get any worse, I had a Time Machine backup and could always buy a new machine. First I upgraded the HDD to a 1TB SSD (I used a Samsung 860 EVO) - the spinning stopped and the performance improved a lot. That's when I pumped up and decided to upgrade the RAM to 16G. Apple Corsair certified 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 1600MHz (PC3 12800) 1.35V laptop memory worked like clockwork. I watched videos on YouTube, took my time and did it in 10 minutes. I also bought new "legs" for the back. I figured this would help my Mac get to Apple's next big update.
