The webbing is much wider and thicker than the two traditional webbings I have compared. Typical belts were 1-1/8" to 1-1/4" wide compared to this 1-1/2" wide belt (see photo). Typical belts were 1 to 1.5mm thick compared to this belt which Was 2 to 2.5mm thick (depending on where I measured the thickness of the belt). The web part is 47" long. The metal buckles add about 2.5" to the overall length. When I put it on I had about 13". inches of extra length folded back and tucked into the belt loops of my pants. I normally wear a 33" waist. I will not trim the excess because it is nicely tapered and finished and I doubt I can make it look professional. The belt has also an elastic fabric loop that holds the loose end of the belt to keep it from sticking out. It's the light gray thing in some of the attached photos. It has a tapered end (see photo) that allows you to comfortably put the belt on through the belt loops of the trousers and the connecting cuts everyone can thread. This is good because both buckles on this belt are so large that they won't fit through the 1 inch loops (see photo). The end of the buckle sewn to the belt (non-detachable) is slightly smaller than the end of the detachable buckle. I managed to thread it through the loops of my Duluth trading pants. Otherwise, you will need to undo the detachable buckle, thread the belt through the loops, and then snap the buckle back on. Fortunately, removing the buckle from the webbing is fairly easy. It's just a shame that you have to do this at least once every time you wear a belt with a certain pair of pants. The buckle system seems very strong and secure. All parts of the buckle are made of metal (see photo) and firmly connected to each other. They also detach easily and the mechanism works very well. I've worn it several times and the strap holds securely in one place on the buckle, doesn't slip at all. During the day (or several days) the belt was not even loosened. As such, it's a strong belt that will hold tools or holsters very well without breaking or sagging under stress. The buckle closes very securely, but is easy to loosen. As long as you are aware of the implications of using a wide belt and buckle and large belt loops, or can thread the belt through your pants and buckle, this is a good belt that will get the job done.
