I bought this for a different reason than most. My dog has a condition called megaesophagus, which means he has an enlarged esophagus that prevents him from swallowing on his own because the muscles aren't working. This causes food, water, treats, and saliva to enter their esophagus and cause them to spit up, putting them at high risk of aspiration pneumonia. She needs to eat in an upright position (in a Baileys chair) to allow food to pass from the esophagus to the stomach to prevent belching. She is particularly sensitive to accumulations of saliva when she is sleeping or chewing on a bone. This puppy bumper saved a life. Literally a savior. This helps keep their neck high so saliva doesn't build up while chewing or sleeping. It's comfortable enough to wear all night; She no longer burps in her sleep, so she can chew on a bone with ease. She can move around the house normally while wearing it, it doesn't limit her ability to do whatever she normally does. keeps it well from cutting. She wore it for a full 10 days after surgery. It was so comfortable that she could easily eat in it while sitting upright in her Baileys chair. At the moment they are only suitable for small dogs with a neck circumference of 10 to 13 inches. I hope that one day manufacturers decide to make them larger so they can be used to help larger dogs suffering from MegaEsophaus. I will be buying more of these to have on hand in case they stop making them. This is a great product. I don't have a fence or balcony so can't comment on how well it works for its intended purpose but absolutely love this product.
