Great for Retro Mac

Okay, I have to dispel some of the things the other Mac guy said below that just aren't true. In short, without going too far into the wild. First, the disks in this display—either unformatted or IBM-formatted—will work with any Mac with a Superdrive. This is a floppy disk drive that can read 1.44MB double-sided high-density discs (also called MF2-HD and FDHD). You can tell they have TWO square holes in them. If you have installed the PC Exchange Control Panel on System 7 or 8, they will be read immediately as IBM disks. If this panel is not installed, you will be prompted to initialize (format) the drive upon insertion. Either way, you want to format them as Mac right away. If you are reading a disc with PC Exchange and it shows up as an IBM drive, you can select it on your desktop and then go to Erase Disc in the appropriate menu. also use a different type of drive if they're from the 80's and very early 90's (like in the Mac Plus). They also take 3.5-inch plastic floppy disks, which look exactly the same but are completely incompatible. Those old Macs are double sided - double density 800k discs. There is only ONE square hole in them. If you have an 800KB drive, you need 800KB disks. It will not work. Maybe the other one was unlucky. I do not know. But for me they work fine in LCII and Quadra 800.

Pros
  • Great Design
Cons
  • Crumpled Packaging
