so I'm a bit overwhelmed to write a good review here but it's true. I love these JBL headphones. They check many boxes and offer pretty much everything you would expect from a good bud set today. JBL has done this while keeping the price around $150, which is a lot lower than most other high-end headphones with a similar feature set. They have some issues, but most of them are minor. Here's the breakdown: - Sound: It's pretty solid here. I would describe it as flat but still good. Large 11mm drivers ensure loud, real bass, subtle mids and crisp highs. There just isn't much separation. You get AAC and SBC codecs. Good for iPhone users but not for Android users. However, I think most people will enjoy the sound here. It's not as good as the new high-end headphones from Sony, Master & Dynamic or Bose, but you're paying a lot less here and JBL gives you a solid sound profile overall. Well done. Active Noise Cancellation (ANC): It's there and doing a good job. Not close to more expensive buds but definitely calms the world around you. I was at an absurdly loud swimming competition today and I was listening to an audio book. I could still hear a noise around me but it was faint and when I pulled them out of my ears the noise confused me it was so loud. Damn good. They won't win any ANC awards, but at this price point, those who buy them will get a very good introduction to the ANC at a very reasonable price. Form factor: JBL has opted for a stock style here. I just don't like them, but the stem is my least favorite bud design. They fit my ears well, but I think some smaller ears will struggle. There's not a lot of room here to hold them, so I don't think they would do well. Speaking of performance, JBL only gives you an IP44 rating. Really only good for light moisture, so sweaty guys like me need to think twice before doing hard, hot workouts in them. Management is by touching the outside of the buds. They work well but are delicate and prone to accidental clicking when removed or adjusted. They have proximity sensors. So if you pull out one of the earbuds, what you're hearing will pause. You can use each button independently. Well I just don't like the feel but I like the features. - Case/Battery: First, many companies underestimate the importance of case design to me. Considering how much we interact with them, I find that very bad. JBL didn't do it. This is a very good case. It's a small, matte plastic case with a nice bright LED battery indicator right on the front. Charging is via USBC or wireless. The buds will give you 6 to 7 hours of use plus an additional 21 hours in the case. The magnets in the case aren't the strongest, but they work and the buds never seem to move when stored. All really good stuff. Connectivity and calls: Bluetooth 5.0 is here, so you get a good, stable connection and easy pairing. Most stem buds are great for calls, but these aren't for me. They work well but seem to pick up quite a bit of background noise. They're not useless at all, just try taking calls in a quieter environment. So to sum it up, I love what JBL has done here. There is nothing revolutionary here. However, it looks like JBL has made it onto my list of things kidneys do well. Decent sound, ANC, ambient noise control, decent app with equalizer control, auto pause, independent headphone use, etc. Everything is here and well executed. Of course there are better kidneys. While the new Sony Wf-1000xm4, Bose QuietComforts and Master&Dynamic MW08 are vastly superior to these JBL headphones, they all cost a lot more. The question is, would I recommend them over the Jabra 85t, Galaxy Pro, or Airpod Pros? I do not know. I don't think so and they are all valued in the same arena. I'm just not sure who should buy them. If you like JBL products and your max budget is around $150 I would recommend them. They give you a lot. Everyone else should probably look elsewhere, no matter how good they are. JBL is great, but I'm not sure if that's enough. I will update more when I get here.
