I first called GE when I noticed that my 3 year old fridge wasn't cooling properly and there was a lot of frost on the back of the freezer. I signed up for service, but soon realized I would be charged about $100 to diagnose the problem, excluding parts and labor. I also found that the parts cost three times as much on GE's website. Thought I'd take a look on YouTube to see if there's a general issue with symptoms similar to what I've seen. I found some videos that included steps for replacing the defrost heater and sensors and it looked like a relatively easy fix. I'm not a practical person so this should have been pretty easy. I bought these parts and was able to fix the fridge in a few hours, mostly spent defrosting a huge block of ice that had built up on the coils. Replacing the original parts took only a few minutes and was very easy. To date, the fridge has cooled down to the ideal temperature and no frost has yet formed in the freezer compartment. I am very happy with the replacement. Thank you!
