Review on πŸ’Ž Enhance Precision with Shapton Glass Stone 16000 Grit for Perfect Finishing Touch! by Kenneth Murphy

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Very fast metal build-up after use (even with light pressure).

I am a little new to whetstones and may not be using this product to get the most of what it has to offer and intended for use. But no matter how lightly I apply the pressure, accumulation of metal on the surface of the stones starts immediately, and once the stone is covered by the accumulation of metal, one can feel its cutting ability and more to the touch. The stone deteriorates rapidly. I'm the only person I've seen so far that hasn't had a positive experience with this particular grit of this stone series, so I'm guessing it was user error on my part, choosing to stick with the stone and work with it to see if I can improve my experience by trying a few different techniques. Although I would buy another brand of stone with that particular grit if I could do it all over again, if you know what you are doing, if you have previous experience with Shapton Glass stones of a different grit, it might just be for you Haven't managed to get it working for my specific needs yet. FWIW, I only own and sharpen high carbon Japanese knives with this stone as well as my other stones. Also, I've found that with my other stones, as I increase the grit, they "build up" faster than the lower grit stones I use. My next smaller grit stone to use before moving on to this one is Kitayama #8000 and my experience with this stone has been exceptional. Good luck if you choose this option.
