General: A friend wanted something that would make her new garage door more secure (by preventing anyone from peeping through) while still letting in light. I have black paper on my garage door and didn't like it when it was dark inside. I told her about it (because I had already used a similar one on my 4x4 window in the master bathroom). It seemed like an economical option. Her garage door installer suggested spray paint (I quickly advised her against it later). PRO: price. Of course, as much as "Murphy" would have liked it, I needed another panel and had to order two rolls, but it was still economical. Easy. I measured each window pane and then cut out the rectangles in advance. But I'm sure it would be easy to use an oversized piece and trim it around the edges with a metal ruler if needed. At first I was concerned it would be difficult to manage due to the curl, but it was lovely to unroll from the cardboard tube and cut. EVEN after removing the protective film I was concerned that I wouldn't curl up, but it just hangs there nicely. The application is easy. I sprayed each glass (after thorough cleaning) with mild soapy water and placed a piece on the glass, centred, wiped any bubbles and smoothed out. I had a tool that I used to apply vinyl to my Corvette - it was a little thicker than a credit card and had felt on one end. I alternated between the two edges. If you didn't have anything, I think a credit card would suffice. I waited until it was about 80 degrees F outside before applying. CONS: substrate. This is a little test of patience, starting at the edge of the part and separating the backing from the part itself. Eventually I found that it allowed me to bend the first eight inches of the angle to start the separation. Conclusion: I highly recommend this product. My girlfriend LOVES it. She loves the view in and out of her garage. If she ever changes her center, she will be easier to remove than something sprayed on her.
