I'm finally tired of having dull chisels in my workshop. Many have developed nicks and dents over time, but I didn't want to use a standard bench grinder for these and it's getting too expensive to sharpen commercially. My DMT Diamond Whetstone arrived this afternoon and I immediately got to work. I bought an extra fine and coarse combination (8" x 2-5/8") so I can remove nicks faster with the rough side and finish with a very sharp edge with the extra fine side. Anyone who receives a new tool should quickly "test" it "out of the box". My quick test was five dull chisels, which are now very, very sharp. I found that the rough side of the stone quickly removed some fairly significant nicks. The course side also worked well when aligning the back of the chisel (essential for a nice square edge). Using the extra thin side was a breeze. A few passes were enough. As proof of the edges, I wear two band-aids on cuts made from simple brushes against pointed edges. The combined stone is great. If I had to do it again I would buy a larger version of the stone.
