I am pleased with the overall performance of this lens. Use it on the Canon 5D Mark III body. Focusing is quick. Bought for a used price of 1 with a 3 year international Mac warranty. This is better than buying a new lens as the lens was actually unopened and still in the box. The $500 price difference is for the 3-year US 1-year international warranty only. manufacturer guarantee. Before buying, I read reviews and analysis comparing Canon 70-200 IS ii f/2.8 lenses. Tamron's 4-speed reduction is amazing. A shot that needs to be taken from a distance of 200mm can be captured at 1/50 second f2.8 100 ISO with the same clarity and less noise as 1/200 second f2.8 400 ISO. This means that a 4-step reduction actually works at 200mm. While I've heard the maximum zoom isn't really 200mm, in practice it should be somewhere around 186mm. A used Canon 70-200 IS ii f/2.8 lens costs $1,700. This is without guarantees. This lens is not as efficient as Canon. But definitely worth $1,000. The DXO rating for the Canon 70-200 IS ii f/2.8 lens is 27 (sharpness 21 Mpixels, aperture 3.4 Tstop, distortion 0.3%, vignetting -1.3 EV, Chr aberration 3 microns), while for the Tamron 70 -200 f/2.8 Lens Di VC USD 28 (sharpness 20 megapixels, aperture 3.2 Tstop, distortion 0.2%, vignetting -1.4 EV, chromatic aberration 7 microns). With the exception of chromatic aberration, everything is practically the same Canon. This lens has 9 aperture blades, which gives a rounder bokeh than Canon's 8 blades. Weighs like a canon. Canon has an all-metal barrel. And Tamron has plastic. This lens is 11mm shorter than Canon's. So there are two things that are very different between Tamron and Canon and they are price and chromatic aberration. Next I will test the lens in low light conditions.
