Buy a branded router and save yourself the headache

The router is fast and that's the good thing. The setup interface can be confusing. I use it as a wireless access point in bridge mode. I had to select from a drop down list to put it in that mode and then save. But when you go back to the settings, it "looks" like it's in the default router mode because it's left as the default dropdown, so you have to trust it's in the right mode . Then when you go to the LAN section it looks like it is configured for DHCP which is what I use for DHCP on my cable modem/router but when you try to disable DHCP it says you are in the router mode should be located. So I assume he's gone and I should trust him again. Every time there's a power outage it loses its settings and my home automation devices can't connect, so I hook it up to a UPS. My final issue is that everything connected to this router seems to be getting the router's IP address for DNS and then nothing can get out onto the internet. I assumed my other router would issue DNS with DHCP requests because when I connect the Apple Airport Express in bridged mode it shows the DNS as a cable modem/router, but the thing seems to be taking over. So much for trusting that DHCP is disabled on it. It appears to be made in China and it shows. Save yourself the headache and buy a more reputable brand. I was trying to save about $10 and now I may have to buy it for $80 and I know it will work fine. There also doesn't seem to be a support site with firmware updates; I'd be content with being able to flash it with open source firmware, I think that would solve the problems I'm having. I've waited months to post a review to see if I can recommend it or not.
