Review on Makita 195386 6 Extracting 7 Inch Grinder by Nick Walker

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent dust control

This product was exactly what I needed and exceeded my expectations Bucket wheel. I first bought a brand of Diamabrush with replaceable teeth, which was not at all good for removing thinset or epoxy paint from concrete. The Diamabra wheel bounced all over the place, leaving large tracks on the concrete instead of a smooth surface. A note about this attachment is that you must use a bowl washer as there is not enough clearance to use a flat washer. I read all the reviews on this dust cover and others and was a bit worried the fiber skirt would fall off as others have said, but that never happened to me after removing the 1000 sqft thinset. This dust cover has a small outlet but I found using a hose from a small shop vacuum was perfect and I was able to tape the other end to my large shop vacuum which kept the dust to a minimum. I had to remove a small piece that allows you to get very close to cabinets and walls. If a small piece is removed, it doesn't pick up dust very well. Overall I am very happy with my purchase and am impressed with the dust control achieved with this product. Here are the pros and cons. Pros: Lightweight, durable composite material, Removable exterior for sanding close to the wall, Dust cover at the bottom, Profiled internal grooves to direct the dust to the outlet, Easy installation. a bit pricey but worth it in the end, small outlet with no accompanying adapter. Overall, this dust cover keeps dust to a minimum and works great for Makita. My biggest concern was the silica from the concrete grinding. The autodidact should note a few things; Spending $20-$30 on bags for your vacuum is really worth it if you really want to control dust and extend the life of your filters. If you own a Shopvac brand most will accept the bags. If your vacuum has a small black plastic part on the opposite side from the hose, you can remove it, place a bag on top and place it in the vacuum. This not only prevents dust from clogging the filter, but also prevents dust from entering through the seal where the motor unit sits above the vacuum bucket. It's worth the money if you're concerned about keeping dust to a minimum. I still used 4mm plastic and painters tape to tape off any closets and rooms that didn't have thinset. Luckily we had nice warm weather that day and strong winds so all the doors and windows were open to let the dust out. The main reason I bought the Makita grinder was because it had this attachment and I thought it would probably be good. fits and it really goes perfectly with the coffee grinder. I've researched generics and only read that they're a conditional fit at best. I recommend this to anyone removing thinset or grinding concrete. I settled on a 24-tooth hard shell bike, which was about $90 at Home Depot, comparable to Revain. I didn't get one from Revain because I needed it the day I discovered the flat disc wasn't compatible with this dust cover. I've attached a picture of a diamabrush disc that doesn't work with this dust cover. I hope this review is helpful to others! Good luck grinding concrete!
