Review on TiVo AN0100 Wireless Network Adapter by Blake Pudic

I ordered a new TiVo Premiere XL4 with this adapter and the installation was very easy. I connected the cables, pressed the WPS button on the router, then went back to TiVo to press the appropriate WPS discover button on the device and all was fine. I already had a TiVo HD with an old Wireless G USB adapter and found that transferring HD content between the two devices was unbearably slow. I bought a second "N" adapter for my old TiVo and expected the setup to be as smooth as the XL4, but it wasn't. It took about 45 minutes between my router and TiVo to get everything working. Eventually the adapter got into a weird state and I had to grab a pen and hit the hard reset button. After a hard reset, it only took one attempt to start the system. I don't know what happened, but I'm just glad it all turned out well. In any case, when everything was running, I noticed a significantly faster transfer rate. I can watch HD content in near real time with little stuttering. That's pretty impressive considering I have a big house and two apartments are literally on opposite corners of the house (even on different floors). Also, my router is in "A/B/G/N" compatibility mode (for some of my older wireless devices), so it's not even using the maximum "N" potential. SD content transfers smoothly, and the TiVo Desktop Plus software transfer time is about three times faster. IMPORTANT NOTE. There is a switch under the device that allows you to switch between the "Bridge" and "Client (default)" network. I assume that in most cases you want to select "Client", but both devices I received had this switch set to "Bridge" by default. Be sure to check this in advance to save yourself any potential trouble. Conclusion: I love this device and am very satisfied with what it does. I'm only deducting a star because of problems setting up the second adapter.
