The bag is really chunky. The extension is at the back where the laptop sleeve is located. Therefore, the area separated by the zippered mesh is in the front (where you store things when you travel) and cannot expand. next to the laptop there is no pocket for stationery and pens. Instead, it's on the other side behind the split. I haven't found a practical way to use this bag on a 3 day trip. And why a TSA lock on the backpack you carry around? I just do not understand! Lastly, I think the solution is probably a small backpack and travel bag that you put at your feet. The extension cord just doesn't work as it creates a bulky bag at your feet.
