Review on Rubicon Express RE1300 Coil Spring by David Olson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

More quality material from RE

Installed these RE springs on the front of my 2000 XJ and am very pleased. However, do not forget to install longer shock absorbers at the same time. The stock shocks are beefed up and limit lift, which is a very bad (and dangerous) way to limit travel! Do yourself a favor and first remove the old shock absorbers, disconnect the front brake lines (from the calipers), then remove the tie rod bolt from the lower passenger side and the center link from the bipod arm. This allows you to lower the front axle far enough to remove the old springs and install new ones WITHOUT using those stupid (and dangerous) coil spring compressors. I also installed the adjustable lower wishbones about 1/4" longer than the stock ones to simultaneously increase trail and avoid the horrible death wobble. Finally, I have longer RE sway bar links and sway bar link Adapters installed to hold the stabilizer bar in the correct position.I installed these springs with new Bilstein shocks in 2 hours using this method. They offer a full 3.5" of lift and the ride once installed is actually better than that Standard equipment (most likely because of the new shocks) I was told the RE shocks are made by Bilstein so I think they will work equally well.

Pros
  • cool product
Cons
  • upgradeable
