. Hope Thetford gets it right. So this is the second toilet I ordered while trying to get ready for a hike. This first brand (EarthTec) leaked through the safety valve and was therefore returned. This one doesn't leak, but the battery operated flush pump doesn't work, right out of the box. WTH, Thetford? I've read most of the one star reviews and this was a big complaint. I was hoping that I wouldn't be one of those people who received a defective pump, but I was. I called Thetford and they said they would send me a replacement in 5-7 days. They seemed to get a lot of calls because they weren't trying to help me troubleshoot or ask any questions. I decided to give them a chance to do well before returning it. On the other hand I would give 5 stars if it worked. The depth of the bowl is way better than other pots we've reviewed. It's still a very small seat, but the extra depth makes it usable. It also doesn't leak out of the relief valve when you carry it by the handles. I filled it with water to see it drain and was pleased it didn't splash. It seems to be a very well designed product and I really hope Thetford can get it right. Note: Many people have complained about water entering the battery case and causing a short circuit. I think there's a chance people aren't installing it properly. Getting off is very, very difficult. You only have to rotate it about 3/8 inch to remove the battery. There's a slight bulge that lines up with the line on the lid to indicate how far to turn it, but it's not very noticeable. Because it has a large rubber o-ring, it is very difficult to pull out when twisted. This can cause you to keep turning, causing the part that houses the small motor, which also has a large rubber O-ring, to turn. If you loosen these and don't do it right, water can get in and destroy the electronics. I think it's a reasonable theory as to why so many people go bad. At least I hope so and my new pump will last a long time. I will update this review to reflect my service at Thetford. UPDATE: I called Thetford a week after my first call. They told me that the part they wanted to send was ready and she didn't know why they didn't send me the whole unit right away. It's really annoying because it seems like they just waited my return time with Revane. You should ship the new unit today, 2nd day Air, UPS. We'll see what happens, but I'm less and less happy with Thetford.
