These stones take very well to carving, cutting and polishing. The main reason I deducted a star was the lack of a description of the stones. itself and ALL design features. I needed at least one square stone with sharp right angles on long edges, and a square stone has NONE. However, they have right angles on the short 1/4 inch edges, which still allows me to do one of the things I need to do, but it's not perfect. Otherwise these stones were packed and shipped with extreme machine and made safe. and sound
