Review on 57I 6508 Performance Intake Kit by Leonard Beard

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Faster and louder - air intake

I installed a K&N 57i intake kit on my Renault Clio 1.6L 16V 110HP. 2007. Having been in the car for almost 2.5 months I can only give an opinion which is not supported by reliable data. I know this car isn't available in the US, but it's similar to other small 5-door, small-engine cars. Renault and Nissan are managed by the same CEO. The only other modification I have to the engine is to use Pulstar BE-1 spark plugs. My first impression of the K&N was a lot more power, I wasn't expecting that kind of punch when I first drove out of the garage. The second impression was a lot more engine noise, a lot more. I like the sound of the engines, but it's too loud when I'm flat out. I'm considering using Dynamat or some other sound deadening material for the firewall and front floor of the car. The performance is worth 5 stars but the noise is too much so I only give it 4 stars. The instructions are very good and easy to follow. I slightly changed the position of the hose that directs fresh air to the filter, my car doesn't have fog lights (I'm fine with xenon headlights) so I cut off the front grille where the left headlight is. should be and place a hose there so that it is as far away from the radiator as possible. This car used to have many idle variations (common for all Clios in Mexico City Heights) that K&N has improved. It is worth noting that Mexico City is at an altitude of 2240 meters above sea level (7400 feet). I mainly drive in city traffic and stop often. It takes me 40 minutes to cover the 10.5 miles between home and work.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
