Currently working. Still looking for

I bought this because the problem with car fasteners that rely on tape is that they end up falling off. The tape cools down in winter, becomes brittle and the adhesive loses its effectiveness. In summer, the hot weather on the dashboard will make the glue sticky and eventually it will fail. I figured because this device has a metal clip, it won't fall off that easily. In that respect it works great! Once properly installed, this holder will not move. Unfortunately, the other end of this mount, which attaches to the phone, is less effective. Because I'm using a Rokform case on a smaller iPhone, the metal plates that magnets can stick to are either too big for the case, or the smaller plates are ineffective due to the thickness of the case. Despite the strong magnets, if you hit the phone hard while driving, it will start to slide down and eventually fall out of the holder. I took a closer look at the mount and found a way to attach the Rokform mount instead of the magnetic mount that comes with this mount. The picture shows the Rokform mount after modifying this mount. The holder works great with this mod except for one thing: the lever coming out of the clamp flexes too much. It's not very rigid at all, and I'm afraid the twisting required to install and remove the phone on the Rokform mount will eventually break my arm. In the end, I decided to be overly cautious and removed the Rokform mount to put it back on the original magnetic mount. To make the magnets more effective I used the magnet that came with my Rokform case. I didn't want to do this as using a Qi wireless charger is very inconvenient. I have to take my phone out of the case to charge it or connect the cable. It's a minor inconvenience but worth mentioning if you're using a similar phone case. It no longer slips between the magnet and rubber on the holder and the magnet and rubber on my case. However, the 4 magnets inside the holder are arranged so that the polarity is 2 north and 2 south, which means that in my case, actually two magnets are repelling the magnet and the other two are attracting. To do this, the bracket had to be aligned so that the magnets were correctly aligned vertically. Finally, the deal breaker that still has me looking is actually the best part of this holder, the clamp hook itself. My car has 3 vertical fins on the air vent. (shown in the photo) and the clamp is long enough and the hook wide enough to clamp the center blind. However, once the clamp is attached, the horizontal direction of the vent cannot be adjusted. The clip forces the vents to face straight out. I have a slight adjustment in the vertical direction of the vent - it's pointing down and a little up - but when I want the AC to face me I'm out of luck. If your vehicle's air vent has horizontal louvers, you can adjust the position of the air vent horizontally but not vertically. This phone holder isn't perfect, but so far it works and holds my phone in place. This interferes with the ventilation of the air conditioning, so I'm still looking for a better solution. I welcome all suggestions. Thank you for reading.
