It is advertised as self-healing. But after a few months of use, the mat gradually crumbles into pieces. I can see where all the cuts are in the carpet. It won't be long before it's useless. I bought it because I didn't want anything toxic. The carpet is made of hard, hardly bendable plastic. There may be some rubber involved in the manufacturing process, but it feels like thick, pliable plastic to me. Paper tends to stick to the surface and the numbers inside can be distracting. But so far it has helped me a lot.
