I like this material. The ones I make are a few inches taller than me to give me more room to descend off an unfamiliar rocky bluff in southern Utah. a steel spike at the end of the bar where I take and place all my weight (with backpack and gear) on the bar and just make my way down what would otherwise be quite a dangerous and risky way down. then all my buddies want to use my stick after seeing how much easier and safer it is. I mean I have 3 specific grip areas on each stick. low, medium and high. I usually use 2 colors of this leather and weave 3 threads into one. also tighten it and leave it like that for a day or so. I then wrap it around the desired gripping areas using the glue applied to the stick as it is wrapped. The ends are tapped into the correct size holes with a hammer and flat head screwdriver and finished with fancy brass/gold nails for the look. The grips are what sets these sticks apart. They look just as beautiful as the perfect and effective gripping material. The webbing actually makes the handles feel more comfortable in the hand. These sticks are strong enough to fully swing over dead juniper branches hanging in your way if you're too tired to walk, and going straight is your option. This skin will hold up well for years. I've never had to rewind any grips due to wear. Over time, with use, sweat and body oils, the skin hardens and takes on the cool look that only real leather has that has been tough and dirty. take a little I always have 5 bobbins on hand
