Good Pi3 Case - Computers & Accessories

After spending more time than I thought going through all the different Pi case options I settled on this one. It comes with heatsinks and screws/screwdriver so you're ready to pop your Pi into it. You may view a case that requires screws as a disadvantage over a case that just snaps open. So keep that in mind if you're sensitive to it. I thought the screws would be easy to insert and easy to remove when needed - I don't expect to have to open and close the case frequently. Overall I am very happy with this case. Some things to know before you buy: 1. I can't remove the microSD card while the case is closed. I only have a Pi3 and it doesn't have this feature when you insert the card to pop it out (not sure if the Pi2 has it). I can touch the card but I can't get it out. I suppose you could try tweezers, but given the fragility of MicroSD cards, I'd just pop open the case. It takes less than a minute to open, switch cards, and close, but if that might be a problem for you, bear this in mind. I suppose another method would be to file that area of the body a bit to get a better grip if you tend to. 2. Since this is my first Pi, I wasn't prepared for how small it was. It's smaller than my wallet! More FYI than anything else, but it's fun to have a pocket computer.3. I saw a review that said the case didn't fit. For the first few minutes I thought it wouldn't be suitable for my Pi3, but then I realized what its trick is! To make it fit, install the MicroUSB and HDMI outputs section first, then place the Pi in that half of the case. Once I figured it out, it was easy to set up.4. I feel like a black case (as opposed to mostly clear cases) would be better hidden behind a TV or on a shelf. It will blend in more and be less likely to catch my young children's attention. YMMV, but there are a few things to consider. In general a good product. I would probably buy another if I bought another Pi. Additional Comments 5/20/16: After using this case for a few weeks I wanted to try different operating systems on the Pi and switched cards. I came across a kind of "hack" to make card swapping easier: I just left the screws on the opposite side of the MicroSD card screwed in - I chose to leave the screws on the same side of the MicroSD card . Outside. This gives enough room to open that side of the case just enough to grab and pull out the microSD card. Otherwise, the case remains quite complicated, but you have to weigh how safe you feel it is as a long-term solution if you want to try it.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • No performance
