Great price and performance.

I am writing to correct my previous review. TRENDnet's 8- and 5-port switches served their purpose for many years (before Lightning, see below). Their thermal and electrical efficiency is greatly underestimated. While some switches draw more than twice the power and emit more than twice the heat, these switches are extremely cool and reliable. I had them in a small attic where ventilation was limited, so their reliability had to do with keeping them from overheating. In the couple of years that I've had them, they've worked flawlessly. I will buy them again. Fixed my previous switches dying due to long UTP runs (over 100ft) and close lightning strikes. Living in California, we didn't have to worry about lightning strikes as much, and running wires throughout the house wasn't a problem. The above switches worked great. Having moved to a new area where lightning is more common, I personally haven't been very good at troubleshooting Ethernet issues related to indirect lightning strikes. I bought new switches as I really liked the previous ones and eventually they failed too. I just didn't map error events to lightning strike events. It was my fault. I think it's important to correct my previous review. Previous Review: Review Title: 4 Switches Dead. Lifetime warranty is useless! I bought 4 switches, 3 8-port and 1 5-port because initially was very happy with power consumption and reliability. I bought my first 8 port switch in 2012 and my last 3 switches in 2013. At the time of this writing (2019) all 4 are down or out of service. Those that turn on only function for about a minute before dying. After paying $20 for a switch in 2012 and 2013 I think I've used them well, 7 and 6 years. Not bad. I would buy them again, except their limited lifetime warranty only applies to models made after 2015. For a comparable price I can fall back on Linksys and Netgear. Going back to 2010, they're still going strong.

Pros
  • POWER SAVING: This 8-port switch uses GREENnet technology, which enables cost savings and reduces power consumption by up to 70% by limiting power consumption of the ports during periods of low connection load.
Cons
  • Security
