Great first camera for a young child. My son is four years old, he takes real photos and saves them on a card. Even if the quality isn't the best. But no matter how he drops and throws things, I think having a "real camera" is the perfect prize for him. He likes it very much. The battery doesn't seem to last all that long, but that might be because it literally runs all day, lol. I would recommend just knowing you won't be getting print quality photos.
