Vornado Energy Smart Fan Decoding

Unfortunately Vornado makes the fan selection so confusing and their website is awful to search, so I'll try to point out the main differences. But first I bought the 633DC which is part of the Vornado Energy Smart line. GOOD: - Energy efficiency. 2-32W depending on the speed it's running at (compared to the 630, a comparable non-DC model that draws 38-53W) - Analog dial to adjust speed so you're not stuck on 3-5 preset speeds are limited. like most fans - very quiet at low speeds; quieter than other fans I've used at the same speed - no ugly PSU like some other Energy Smart models - easy to clean - front cover is removable - 10 year(!) warranty BAD: - only available in white. I would prefer black. - can get noisy when turned on, but that's the nature of a fan this size - pricey at $100 (although hopefully it makes up for it with its power efficiency). Here is a summary of the round Energy Smart fans. I hadn't considered buying a tower fan because they don't clean well and the ones I've used in the past (not the Vornado) tend to be noisy. All Energy Smart fans are white except for the tower fans which are black. SMALL FANS - 533DC: Smaller version of the 633DC. I'm pretty sure it doesn't have a power supply so it's a good choice if you want something smaller - 5303DC: A slimmer version of the 533DC. For the extra money you get a remote control and a sleep timer. The speed controller is digital, not analog (worse in my opinion). I don't need a remote and just use the smart plug when I need a sleep timer (and I don't think the smart plug will work well with this model because I'm pretty sure it won't) . turns on automatically and resumes when power cycled with smart plug). MIDDLE FAN - 610DC: basically same as 633DC but with power supply. it's also about the same price, so why bother? - 6303DC: A refined version of the 633DC. For the extra money you get a remote control and a sleep timer. The speed controller is digital, not analog (worse in my opinion). I don't need a remote and just use a smart plug when I need a sleep timer. 683DC, 623DC and 693DC: mostly 633DC in different racks but they all seem to have power. Blocks - 6803DC: basically 6303DC but with power supply LARGE FANS - 723DC and 783DC: larger versions of 623DC and 693DC. so basically more than 633DC, but on a stand + ugly PSU

Pros
  • Pleasant to Use
Cons
  • Requires Socket
