Review on Powerful Protection: InstallGear 0/2/4 Gauge AWG πŸ’ͺ in-Line ANL Fuse Holder with 250 Amp Fuse by Michael Hawkins

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good for the price, but melts away at high sustained power. Good fuse for the starter cable.

Most users rate this product well. He has many good qualities. O-rings fit 0 or 4 gauge wire. It has o-rings which should make it dustproof. The lid is screwed, which also helps to protect against dust. But several users have posted photos of them melting. I think I know the problem. The manufacturer says "high temp" plastic but doesn't say what it is. But I think it's acrylic. And it's not a very high temperature. One user calculated that at 200 amps the fuse would draw 24 watts. But this user wanted to blame the fuse itself, saying it draws too much power. But I don't think that's a problem. I think that's it, you run 200 amps through the fuse and it should draw some current. Just as it is. JL Audio costs twice as much. Why? Because it is made of polycarbonate which is much more temperature resistant. (No, I don't work for JL and I'm not affiliated with them in any way. All I know is that they do good things.) For my particular application, this fuse holder is used in the starter line. It will not have consistently high performance. So for me it's ok. But for amp fuses I will use JL Audio or similar products. Discount products are discounted for a reason.
