1: It really should be bought with a second box due to the stupid design of the bottom panel. The bottom plate has a hole big enough for the cat to fit through. It's okay if it's the top drawer so the cat can go in the top or bottom drawer. HOWEVER this is ugly if it is a base plate with a pillow as any pillow will fall through the hole. I got lucky and bought two boxes and am considering some modifications to the panel I'm using on the bottom of the bottom circle. 2: You might want to buy your own pillow for the bottom of the box as the pillow that comes with it is very fragile. If I had read other reviews like I usually do, I would have seen one person describe it as more fragile than me don't know if this applies to the dark wood version: both sides of all panels are varnished. However, nowhere in the instructions does it say that the panels come in two colors. One side is "natural" and the other side is a neutral greyish tone. They are both glossy veneered. I took the first two panels out of the box and screwed all the screws, then pulled out the next panel and only then looked at the back. My first assembled box has a glossy gray cast to it because I just didn't want to redo all the screws.
