It appears to be solidly built, although I'm not sure how well it will hold up at or near its maximum weight after repeated use. If you plan to use it to raise or lower objects over 400 pounds, I would use a highly rated winch just to be on the safe side. For my use (raising and lowering a hop vine trellis weighing no more than 100 pounds) this works great. Under the influence of the elements, it does not rust at all. You really can't beat that for the price. Edit: After 2 years of non-stop exposure to outside elements, it still looks the same as the day I bought it.
