Reviews are mixed. let me help There are four separate light sources in this kit. These are battery powered devices, so yes, *all* of them require batteries to work. There shouldn't be anything surprising. Each flashlight requires 4 AA batteries. Many reviews said that the product did not work immediately after purchase. I initially had the same problem. Solution, look again at the battery installations. The battery compartment has a slight "play" so the batteries can move around and not touch the contacts. Rock the batteries to make sure the top end is touching the contact (the end away from the spring). Also make sure the battery pack is securely attached to the flashlight. There are four remote controls. Not sure why, each remote works with each light so I only used one. I checked that they all work with each light. Keep the other three as backups. timer function. I've only used it once and it really worked. I had to turn on the light and then press the timer button in front of the light. The lights were turned off after 6 hours. After 18 hours they all turned back on by themselves, no action required from me. All in all great lights that look amazing and we get compliments on how they look.
