Review on beyerdynamic DT1770 Pro Studio Headphone, DT1770 PRO (DT1770 PRO) by Sean Spence

Very pleasantly surprised by these headphones!

These headphones sound fantastic. A lot of people said they were bass monsters. I totally disagree. The bass is pronounced and there is around 3-5 dB of boost all the way up to 100 Hz. But the frequency response can be deceiving. The Fostext THx-00 has way more bass than them. These headphones, too, and the often-criticised 6kHz treble peak, are exaggerated. In my opinion the DT 770 had much stronger bursts at high frequencies, and they were on the verge of a hiss. On the other hand, they are much more trusting. These headphones are ideal for those who want a slight V-shape without sacrificing mids. The mids are there, they just don't come out ahead compared to the bass and treble. But overall I'm shocked that these headphones have some of the negative reviews they are making. In my opinion, the Meze 99 Classics were much more punchy, with diffused bass and a 4-6kHz top-mid/treble peak that rendered them completely inaudible. I love these headphones and only have 2 minor complaints. Firstly, the ear pads are much stiffer than regular Beyer ear pads and will therefore rub against the tops of your ears after prolonged use. I see that if I keep breaking the ear pads, this problem is solved. The second problem is cables. I love that they are mini XLR but can't stand how stiff and jerky they are. They cannot be straightened. It's not a big problem. But given the money you spend on mid- to high-end headphones, the cable doesn't have to be that cheap.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Definitely bad product
