I love this skirt. I'm 5'4", about 170 lbs. I have the widest hips. I bought size XL based on other reviews and their sizing. below the navel. I don't think it will fall. I would love it with a zipper instead of buttons! I have a thin waist but full hips and buttocks and I was so excited that it fit me but the button on the front didn't fit me. I'm in my 50's and wore this skirt until it got too tight. I passed it on to my mom and she wore it until she was 70. Now I want again. I love it. It's well made and fits well. The only reason I didn't keep it was that it was a little stretched. That's good, except I could use some abdominal help. The side view wasn't as flattering as we'd like. I could try again. You won't find vintage skirts like this. Silver buttons are bright. Some may prefer gold. This is a good buy. In the end I liked XL.
