Bilstein 24186728 Shock Absorber Tacoma Review

Fitting shock absorbers was a common thing. The stock shocks on my pickup were Bilstein 4600 and they were fine. I decided to upgrade to the 5100 because of the springy feel in the rear. They work way better than I expected. Especially in the dips on the route and the washboard on the gravel road. A very good upgrade. Hope that helps.

I have a 5100 series on the front of my 2017 Tacoma. Soon after, I realized I needed them in the back too. In general I like them. Better to drive than stock. They give you more off-road capability and make highways and side streets comfortable. I highly recommend. 4 stars because they don't have instructions and it was fun trying to figure out which washing machine goes where.

Installed these because I installed the 5100 with a 2-1/2" jack in the front, so I replaced the rears and added a jack block. It only makes sense to replace the dampers even though I thought my existing dampers were fine. I've put 200,000 miles on these stock TRD OffRoad 4600s, but they improve the ride quality. I am very happy with this purchase. I'm trying to buy this truck for half a million.

Installed these on my 2008 Toyota Tacoma because it is 2" in the rear and 3" in the front so I couldn't use the regular fit. They fit great and the ride feels solid again. I don't use them for off-road driving, only for city driving, and they feel good on bumpy tarmac roads. The only negative I can think of is that the top of the shock doesn't have a square end with a screw cap to hold on to when screwing in the retaining nut. Otherwise they work great.

Bought these shocks for a Bilstein 5100 front. They are set for an additional 2 inches of travel. These shock absorbers are designed for rear passengers and do not provide lift. You will need an extra sash or block to elevate the back. However, these shocks are designed for a 2-inch rear stroke. Anything more than this requires a longer shock than this. One star deducted because the puck stack was not obvious. Factory discs fit better. Installation took 40 minutes as it took some effort to get the bottom bushing into the bracket. After a quick IPA lube, they went in smoothly. There is a hex on the top of the bolt that you need to hold onto while installing the top nut, unlike the OEM which had a flat side. These shock absorbers have received top marks on most Toyota forums. That's quality. Attention, they come without instructions. It's not that hard to find out, but you have to be sure. The hardest part is removing the old shock absorbers. The upper nut is difficult to loosen. A vise and 14mm wrench are required. Spray PBR to dissolve. A rubber mallet will also come in handy.
