The opening was NOT 4x4. I had to use a utility knife to cut a quarter inch off each side and smooth them out with a sander. It also doesn't come with any mounting hardware, which is disappointing for the price. In addition, the material and bowls are easy to clean and well designed.

Not suitable for 4x4 luggage racks! My husband went to the trouble of making clamps for this seed trap. When I saw this I thought the hole looked small but we believed it was as said. Of course, after we removed the feeder from the post and tried to put it on the post, the hole became too small. I'm not sure what ruler was used in making it, but the actual hole is 3 5/8" x 3 5/8"

I use it horizontally on the terrace above the canal. Has a nice weight. Just in case, I tied it with a bungee through the central hole. More and more birds are using it. I've tried another fabric seed trap that hangs from the feeder and it's a waste of time and money. They flap in the wind and fall over when the larger bird lands to pick up the fallen seed. You might as well throw the seed on the ground. This seed catcher is exactly what you need! It has two thick-walled coated screens that capture seeds and drain rain/snow.
