I find the suction very good. I have no children, a short rug and a black cat and a very small house. I definitely recommend this product. I used to have several cordless vacuums and got tired of swapping them out because the batteries were dead. I like the wired feature on this one. That works great too. Don't expect it to work like your heavy stand, as it's just a vacuum with a few nozzles but pretty good suction. It's great for light jobs like quick daily cleaning of the kitchen floor and under the table. I can even vacuum carpets without vacuuming the edges and getting caught in the roller.
