Tow hook and strap broken on first use

Broken on first use. Hardly pulled the car and it broke down. The screw that goes into the car was cheap and broke. It would be nice to find a replacement.

Pros
  • Fits me perfectly
Cons
  • No machine gun

Do not use for towing

Used as the bow/stern attachment point for my kayak. Had an accident and used it to put my wrx on a flatbed. Ring stretched on first use. The threads broke the second time.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Hard to tell

Great mount for my kayaks

Subaru models aren't designed for the adventurous, but they don't have space to attach kayaks and canoes. That works great! It may or may not work as a restore point, but that's not what I bought it for.

Pros
  • Certified
Cons
  • Almost never

DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM

Terrible product. The hitch became detached from the tongue within 4 feet of being towed. If this product is to be used on a track, it will eventually kill the track worker. However, when the hook sheared, its sling shorted out over 100 feet with enough force to punch a hole in a wooden fence.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Having problems

This item is well made. The blue anodized hinge looks particularly good.

This item is beautifully finished. The blue anodized hinge looks particularly good. Haven't actually tried towing or towing a car with it, but it seems strong enough to withstand it. Be sure to apply anti-seize to the threads if you leave it in the car as the hitch on the car is steel and the stem is aluminum. FWIW, the same 16M x 1.5 thread is used on other cars including the Ferrari 360, 430 and 458.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Small parts

A bit long for a 2014 XV Crosstrek

The front bumper is about 2 inches longer but the rear is perfect. You need two sizes. I only use them to attach a kayak. get stuck, steel mill returns. To update. I shortened the front by a centimeter. Ring thread 12mm x 1.75. I just found a hole saw with the same ID as the 12mm thread and cut flush with a rotary cutter. Then I simply recut the 12mm x 1.75 thread. The last two photos show the finished product.

Only appearance, does not work as intended

The first goal of any product should be: Does it work? In this case the answer is no. Imagine wintering in North Dakota, where there is a lot of snow and cold enough to keep you from looking under your car for a tow point. I installed them so I could connect quickly and get out of any ditch I could find. Unfortunately, the aluminum threaded rod broke under little to no stress. So I had to dig under the car. If the bar had been steel, this probably wouldn't have happened.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Unreliable

Ideal for attaching the bow/stern of a kayak.

I use them on my kayaks and they are perfect for increasing the distance between the brackets and the trunk/hood of your car (I had enough space, I didn't need a towel or anything else on the hood or upper body to avoid rubbing). The nut makes it fully adjustable. People who say it's too short or too long must never have used an adjusting nut? You have about 2.5-3 inches of free play to turn the hook the way you want it. I highly recommend it if you use them for basic ties. I can't say anything

Pros
  • Several competitors
Cons
  • Does not fit all
