This is great for me because I don't have big tanks and it will last a long time. I get it because I just can't stand the smell of Prime and its brimstone. As the name suggests, it takes a lot more to purify water, but I agree. That's a compromise I want to live with. Seachem Prime works but stinks. I've used Hikari Ich X and it's great so I trust their product.

I have used tap water in all my tanks for many years and always use Prime. My tap water in my city is treated with ammonia, which is deadly to fish. After years of using Prime, my water became so acidic that it barely showed up below pH 6.0 in the API Master Test Kit. I had to buffer the water with crushed coral for years and couldn't figure it out. The fish shop recommended I try the Ultamat, and I ended up doing it. All years of problems are gone. Have used it before in the past. It consists of ClorAm-X, also known as Sodium Hydroxymethanesulfonate, which Amquel Plus uses. However, in my experience, Ultimate has a more stable formula. It appears to reduce oxygen much less than other dechlorinators. Additionally, it does not add sulfates to the water, which would otherwise allow denitrifying bacteria to turn their end bioprocesses into toxic hydrogen sulfide.
