It costs a few bucks to get it right

This is a nifty piece of equipment. I thought the sharpness was around 15 degrees but wanted to be sure. I put on the guide, made a few passes and found I was going away fine but returning too low. I don't use it all the time, but it helps me a lot in building proper muscle memory.

Pros
  • Makes sharpening easier with a whetstone
Cons
  • Some little things

Works but wears out quickly

At $10 it's not worth it. Ceramic wears out very quickly and can no longer be used. As the ceramic wears, it also decreases the angle of the knife, making the angle smaller than when it started. You then have to pull yourself up to maintain the same angle. Go for the cheaper option, thinking it's a temporary gimmick.

Pros
  • Sharpening a knife with a Japanese whetstone will give you a sharp edge
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks
