A good test light with a long cord that retracts.

This is an improved version of the cheap test lamp you can find everywhere as it has a red light, long retractable cord, sturdy alligator clip and protective plastic tip cap. It's better than digital as it allows me to check if the coil is weak and not worry about frying the circuit board. Nevertheless, digital has its justification.

Pros
  • hands-free mode
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD QUALITY

Just received today and used before. Comes in a nice and durable clear Lexan plastic rectangular tube so you can keep it in your tool box and not worry about losing the small adapter that comes with it. The quality is top notch. It is made in China. Unfortunately, America used to make such quality products at a reasonable price. I wish we could get that ability back instead of fighting over dirty politics.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Has defects

The spiral cable is now in order.

I was arguing between this and the OTC1 coilless test lamp: 20 years ago I told myself I would never buy anything coiled again because it's usually too easy to pull off the ground .2: i found out that my colleague has a spiral test lamp so i borrowed it. 3: I noticed that the modern reel has more flexible rubber and is longer compared to the earlier ones. 4: I ordered this one because it's a mini and not a straight cable. OTC.5: When it arrived I decided to stretch it overnight to make it evenโ€ฆ

Nice little block suitable for testers

Copper grounding clip - nice touch nice thick cap for said clip so no problem. This is good because it means you are not pulling on the cable where it enters the instrument. The device is a good size, not too long and not too short. The threading at the base of the probe is comfortable to the touch and can fit many other nozzle types. Would like to see if it's possible in future versions to say maybe 3 LEDs (6,12,24) or something, maybe not specify the exact voltage but the general idea ie ifโ€ฆ

The best test light! Throw away the test LED lamp.

What a cool test light! This should be in every mechanic's toolbox, from novice to pro. I'm a professional mechanic and bought these after years of using the LED test lamp (see second picture). I immediately compared the current of the OTC test lamp to the Snapon lamp (nothing wrong with that btw) and it proves that the incandescent lamp draws 0.156mA of current. The LED test lamp consumes only 0.048 mA. The design of this test lamp is better than expected and the coiled wire will not be aโ€ฆ

I believe; Fine. I don't expect this light to last long

In my opinion: The light arrived a few days ago and was in active use for several hours yesterday. It's just "good". I will insist on a return to a flexible rubber wire with no turns. Coiled plastic as installed cable is heavy and tends to fall off things, dragging everything with it. It gets tangled easily and is difficult to clean. Also, the "strain relief" of the cords is not the same at all. It and the end cap are one piece; They are made of hard plastic and hardly bend at all. Myโ€ฆ
